Still Beyond Control: Medikal’s Return to Form

By all accounts, Medikal enters a room with an air of confidence. His voice, presence, and energy all convey a calm assurance that says, “I’m here, and I know who I am.”

But beneath the surface lies a story of struggle. The setbacks, the evolution, the quiet resilience—Medikal has faced it all and refused to back down. His latest album, Disturbation 2, is more than just music. It’s a statement. A reintroduction. A reminder that while the world keeps changing, Medikal stays rooted in truth.

“I'm Still on Road”

Right from the start, Medikal sets the tone. Whether he’s recording, raising his son, or prepping for a stadium concert, it’s all part of the same mission: build something that lasts.

“I like to chill; I don’t complicate things,” he says. That ease isn’t laziness—it’s clarity. For Medikal, it’s about focusing on what matters: family, work, music, and energy that feels right.

Even with the music industry shifting rapidly, he stays grounded. “I just speak my mind on beats,” he explains. “Reality vibe. That’s why people connect.”

The Business Behind the Bars

Having grown up on Jay-Z, Kanye, and 50 Cent, Medikal understands the tension between creativity and commerce. “At the end of the day, it’s entertainment,” he says. Whether it’s a radio smash or something deeply personal, his music is always about connection.

Still, he’s aware of the grind. “I go to the studio every day. Not to chase hits—but to work. It’s competition out here.”

His work ethic is undeniable. No writing sessions, no notebooks—just instinct. “Sometimes I don’t even charge for features,” he adds. “If the vibe is strong, I’m in.”

No Label. No Problem.

While many artists lean on major labels, Medikal has built his path independently with his brother. Beyond Control isn’t just a name—it’s the model.

There are no label advances or corporate safety nets. Just grit, smart promotion, and a deep understanding of his audience. “I know if we don’t do it ourselves, nobody will,” he says. “So we reinvest. Every time.”

And he’s not sweating streaming numbers. “Some songs chart, but you never hear them outside. Others don’t chart—but they’re everywhere. What’s a real hit? The one you can’t escape.”

“Shoulder,” Shatta, and Chemistry

The hit single “Shoulder” came out of nowhere. A random studio session, a beat that felt right—and Shatta Wale sent back his verse within 15 minutes.

“That’s the fastest I’ve ever received a verse,” Medikal laughs.

But the connection with Shatta goes deeper than music. “That’s Donny. He’s my spiritual father,” he says. “He’s been through it. He gives me game, tells me where not to fall.”

They support each other in public and behind the scenes. And if anyone has an issue with who Medikal aligns with? “I don’t listen to people. If you have an issue with my man, that’s on you.”

Putting the Pieces Back Together

The Disturbation 2 album art says it all—a puzzle, fractured, now pieced back together. “I’m fixed now,” Medikal says. “With fire. With diamonds.”

The opening track, “Sometimes,” features a voice note from his sister recalling a flood that wrecked their home after their parents’ divorce. “It was hell,” he remembers. “But it shaped me. The ups and downs, that’s life.”

The album blends confidence, pain, and gratitude across tracks like “Ghana Boy,” “DND” with Sarkodie, and “I Did It” with Shatta Wale. And then, of course, there’s “Shoulder”—an anthem by accident, a crowd-favorite by design.

Legacy, Fatherhood, and Space

Beyond the music, Medikal is now a father to two: Island and Space.

Yes—Space.

“I named him Space so he grows into an infinite world,” he says. “Limitless.”

He admits there’s fear in raising kids in a world this exposed. But he’s focused on what he can control. “I only share what I want the public to see. The rest? That’s mine.”

Final Lap: Stadium Dreams

On December 13, Medikal takes over the Accra Sports Stadium for his Beyond Control concert. No label. No hype machine. Just the work, the catalog, the people.

“I go hard because no one else will do it for me,” he says. “I’m not just working—I’m building.”

In a world where hype fades fast and numbers don’t always reflect reality, Medikal has stayed grounded. Still growing. Still learning.

Still beyond control.

And he’s only getting started.
